Pickin' the Winners

Do you ever wonder how some people get in the positions they are in? Sometimes they say or do the dumbest things. It seems like they have their head up their ass. Here's a classic example:

On Tuesday Hillary received an endorsement from the United Transportation Union, the same group that endorsed John Kerry in 2004. (Keep that in mind!) And then the union guru and smart man, Paul Thompson, said "The UTU has a long history of picking winners early. Hillary will be a President that America's working families can count on."

Most of the time we don't have to work hard for our material.

Castro Sends in his Absentee Ballot

I head a report last night from Glenn Beck that Fidel Castro has called for a Hillary Clinton - Barack Obama ticket in 2008. Castro called the pairing "invincible." So in light of that I paid particular attention to the network news shows, ABC and CBS in particular. (In AZ we seen a Glenn Beck broadcast at 4pm then get the national news.) The question: would they enlighten us of this critical political endorsement from the man who called Jimmy Carter the greatest American President?

The answer: Of course not!

But I would be willing to bet a sleeve of golf balls that if Castro took a liking to Rudy or Mit it would be the lead story.

Gee, can ya tell which way they lean?

Crime and Punishment

How very fortunate that our very first entry on this blog should concern that great American dog killer M. Vick. Using the American justice system to his ultimate advantage, Mr. Vick has negotiated a plea bargain whereby he might receive about one year in prison. And I’m sure it will be the Paris Hilton type of prison not one fit for the dog himself.

And then the NFL is trying to look tough on this matter and give Vick an “indefinite” suspension. How wimpy! Even the smallest dictionary gives “indefinite” a vague definition. Hell, Vick could be back playing football the day after his spiritless jail sentence has been served.

But what’s most disturbing about all this is the functioning of our justice system. Where the hell is the “make the punishment fit the crime” philosophy? Vick should be sentenced to a lifetime of cleaning kennels at the Humane Society. Or perhaps, to reduce his sentence, just make him clean each and every Humane Society kennel in the U.S. one time – at his own expense. If he’s got enough money to operate a dog killing business, he should be able to pay his way around the country to clean kennels.
